Honey Live Action Review (2018) [Japanese Movie]

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I will share a Japanese movie review to you and the title is Honey. This movie released last year and I will share the link of its Asian Wiki page for more information.

This movie is adapted from manga under the same title written by Amu Meguro. I've read few chapters of the manga and I really like it. The story tells about Nao Kogure--a shy and sweet girl--, who is proposed by scary, red-haired Taiga Onise.

As usual, spoiler alert!

The movie began with Taiga Onise (played by Sho Hirano, member of King & Prince) that was fighting in the rain. Then when he sat, still in the rain, a girl gave him red umbrella and a box of milk. I guess you know who gave him the umbrella and the milk. Yup, it's Nao Kogure (played by Yuna Taira). But this scene is only the prologue of the movie.

Nao lives with her uncle since her parents died from an accident. Because of her parents' death, Nao became a timid girl and often says "I'm scared!" or "It's impossible!". Thankfully her uncle always comforts her when she is at home by making delicious food for her. Her uncle was her first love in the manga, but I can't see it from the movie. What I see is, Nao does love his uncle but it's only a love from a niece for an uncle.

About Taiga's proposal, the scene is really nice, sweet and funny because Nao was unable to reject him since his face and appearance were scary. So, Nao just accepted that they were dating. For me, Taiga is a kind of boy that we want to date because he is so sweet and gentle. And, he can cook too! All the things he does for Nao, the way he protects her, the way he protected his friends... just sweet. I'm glad that Nao slowly realizes the reasons of his 'mischievousness'.

All of the characters in this movie, including Kayo Yashiro (played by Kaho Mizutani) and Ayumu Misaki (played by Ryusei Yokohama) were portrayed really well by the actors and the actresses. I've seen Yuna in so many movies with different roles so there is no doubt that she can portray Nao. I've seen Ryusei Yokohama in many movies too. I think Sho Hirano and Kaho Mizutani are new actor and actress but I think they can portray their roles really well and it will be nice to see them in another movie.

Overall, the movie is great, fun to watch, the plot is not heavy, and the love story is sweet as honey. It's worth watching!

My rating (my rating can be different from other people's rating): 3,8/5
