Watashi no Oyome-kun (2023) Live Action Review: Rom-Com and Reversed Bride

Hello, everyone! Thank you for clicking this page!😊 today I want to share a review of a Japanese drama, Watashi no Oyome-kun.

(Official Poster)

Title: Watashi no Oyome-kun
Native Title: わたしのお嫁くん
Also Known As: Mr. Bride
Episodes: 11
Genre(s): Romance, Comedy
Broadcast Period: April 12th - June 21st, 2023
Casts: Haru, Mahiro Takasugi, Kentaro Maeda, Aoi Nakamura, Sawa Nimura, etc.

This drama tells a story of Honoka Hayami (Haru) who is excellent in her job at home electronics manufacturers, very reliable and everyone says that her future husband will be very lucky because Honoka will be an amazing housewife. Little that they know, Honoka is very competent in her job, but actually she is a messy person at home. Amazing housewife image is gone if someone sees how messy her apartment is. Honoka is not good at cooking or doing housework. One day, her junior at her workplace, Chihiro Yamamoto (Mahiro Takasugi), who has a feeling towards her, accidently happens to know this secret. Chihiro offers himself to be the "wife" or oyome-san for Honoka and he takes the responsibility of doing all the housework and lives together with Honoka.

***

That's pretty much the story is about. Honoka and Chihiro set a contract where they live together as "wife" and "husband" (reversed😄). Chihiro does all of the housework and Honoka acts as a husband who fulfills all the wife's needs😆 Honoka is very grateful for having him on her side but she doesn't think any more than the mutual benefit of this contract. She doesn't consider Chihiro as a man. This situation is bad since he loves her so much. He's such a cutie, in my opinion. Chihiro always works hard to make Honoka realizes his feeling, yet, he never forces anything so that Honoka doesn't feel uncomfortable around him.

(Mahiro Takasugi as Chihiro Yamamoto)

(Chihiro doing the housework)

Honoka is so pure and clueless and definitely not good at dating. But she slowly realizes that she also falls in love with Chihiro and takes an action to confess her feelings. I forgot to mention that Chihiro has two older brothers (Terunosuke Takezai and Yuta Furukawa) and one of them, Masami Yamamoto (Terunosuke Takezai) is very protective of Chihiro. Honoka faces Masami just so she has the permission to be with Chihiro.

(Chihiro's brothers: Masami and Kaoru Yamamoto. Played by Terunosuke Takezai and Yuta Furukawa respectively)

(His love language is definitely act of service
⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡ )

I think, with the type of female heroines like Honoka, the story of some of the dramas can be a bit difficult to watch because often times, this type of heroines are so frustrating, since they are clueless to the heroes' feelings. But with this drama, I don't feel any of that. The characterization is done so well, so the portion of the story feels right, if you know what I mean. Honoka and Chihiro end up together in the right time. Not too fast, but also not too late so the viewers don't feel bored and frustrated. The timing is just right. The comedy aspect in this drama also makes me giggles while watching it. At first, I was afraid that the comedy will be too comical, and it is! But it's not cringe whatsoever, and I found myself enjoying every second of it( ˶ˆ꒳ˆ˵ )

(This drama is based on manga by Natsumi Shiba)

In terms of the acting, there is no need to doubt it. We all know Haru is such a great actress. But I feel like this one, I'm not talking about her, but I'm talking about her character, Honoka. I don't really like how her character is directed. I'm sorry I can't elaborate it but Haru's acting is great, but the directing of her character here is a bit odd, I guess? (Guys, please don't come after me😂) maybe someone can explain it better if you have the same opinion? Please kindly leave your comment down below.

I always love Mahiro Takasugi. I think he is one of the great actors who has versatile facial expressions in acting. He can be serious, he can act wild, and he can also be a cutie like in this drama.

(Mahiro as Chihiro Yamamoto ♡ >ᴗ< )

I need to mention that the casts are so heavenly😆 not only beautiful actresses, but we also have many ikemen in this drama, like Mahiro, Kentaro Maeda (who plays Honoka and Chihiro's junior), and Aoi Nakamura (Iori Koga, Honoka and Chihiro's senior). Seriously, my eyes are blessed, lol😆 the other characters also add more elements and layers to the story without ruining it.

(Aoi Nakamura as Iori Koga)

(Sawa Nimura as Reina Akamine)

(Kentaro Maeda as Ran Hanazuma)

I give this drama 4 out of 5 stars⭐️ if you're looking for a feel good, light, romance comedy drama I think you'll love this one😉 have you guys watched this drama? Please tell me your opinion on the comment below. See you next time!💗

P.S. I need to find my own Chihiro in real life😆
