Eye Love You (2024) Review: A Drama That Has So Much Potential

Hello, everyone! I didn't write a review for last week so I will post 2 this weekend. Let's talk about Japanese drama with a South Korean actor as one of the leads, Eye Love You.

Official Poster
Native Title: アイラブユー
Directors: Ryosuke Fukuda, Shingo Okamoto, Akiko Kato
Screenwriters: Kisa Miura, Subaru Yamashita, Saki Miura
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Episodes: 10
Release Date: January 23 - March 26, 2024
Casts: Fumi Nikaido, Chae Jong Hyeop, Taishi Nakagawa, Mizuki Yamashita, and the others.

Yuri Motomiya (Fumi Nikaido) had an accident when she was a child. After this accident, she can hear other people's inner voices if she looks at their eyes. Sometimes, she gets hurt by this ability, so she has difficulties in expressing her emotions and also afraid to know other people's true feeling. She also gives up on love long time ago. One day, Yuri meets Yoon Tae Oh (Chae Jong Hyeop), a friendly, bright, South Korean student. She can hear his inner voice too, but it is in Korean. Will Tae Oh's bright personality open Yuri's heart?

I was super excited when this drama was announced. The casts are superb and they are one of my favourite actors/actresses. The storyline seems adorable too. This series basically is right up my alley. But, after watching it, I sadly have to say that it disappoints me a bit.

Eye Love You has cliché scenes, and honestly, they work. It is understandable in rom-com genre. The main issue is in the plotline. I find many fillers in the story; as it is dragged to fit so this drama can be 10 episodes long. I feel bored after watching the 6th episode. I think the story needs to be polished just a little bit more.

Fumi Nikaido as Yuri, and Chae Jong Hyeop as Tae Oh

Another issue, which relates to the plot too, if I'm allowed to say this, is the characterization. I like Tae Oh. His character is so bright, positive, friendly and kind. If you know the term 'golden retriever boyfriend', Tae Oh is the embodiment of that term.

Chae Jong Hyeop as Tae Oh. He is so cute and so golden-retriever-boyfriend coded🤭🥰

Chae Jong Hyeop is the perfect cast for Tae Oh. He embodies the character and he is very charming. No wonder that he shines in this drama. But, I find other characters other than Tae Oh are inconsistent at times, and sometimes, annoying. Take a look at Yuri. I understand where do her attitudes come from, but she often doubts in making decisions and it is annoying. I disagree with people who said that Fumi Nikaido's acting is annoying. No, everyone. I've watched Fumi's movies and dramas, and her acting is amazing. It's just her characterization that is bad. Fumi just happens to portray the character. This is the first time that I dislike the female lead in movies or dramas.

Taishi Nakagawa as Akito Hanaoka, Yuri's friend and business partner

Hiroya Shimizu and Mizuki Yamashita as Gaku Onoda and Mahiro Ikemoto, respectively

Others like Akito Hanaoka (portrayed by Taishi Nakagawa) is also lacking in character development. It is so unfortunate because the casts are great. Moreover, the chemistry between the casts is chef's kiss, especially between Fumi and Chae Jeong Hyeop. The leads are so cute together. I find myself smiling seeing their interactions🤭🥰 the chemistry really saves this series, in my opinion.

Anyway, it's just my opinion and preference. I'm sorry if you found my review a bit too harsh. If you are a fan of the casts, and has no problem with anything I shared above, then, go watch this drama. Eye Love You might not be my favourite, but I don't hate it either. I give this one 3,5/5⭐️ what do you guys think about this drama? Have you watched it? Please leave a comment down below. See you tomorrow!💗
