Matched (2023) Review: A Twisted and Thrilling Mystery Movie

Hello, everyone! Today I want to share a short review of Matched (2023).

Official Poster

Native Title: マッチング
Screenwriter & Director: Eiji Uchida
Genres: Thriller, Mystery
Release Date: October 9th, 2023
Duration: 1 hr. 50 minutes
Casts: Tao Tsuchiya, Daisuke Sakuma, Nobuaki Kaneko, and others.

Tao Tsuchiya stars as Rinka, a wedding planner, who feels unlucky with her life. Her mother left when she was so much younger and she also has no luck in dating. One day, she is matched with Tomu (Daisuke Sakuma) through a dating app. In real life, Tomu is completely different than in the app. He starts bombarding her with text messages and even stalking her. At the same time, married couples who met through the same dating app are killed brutally.

As the story goes, clues are unraveled one by one. We also get to see Rinka's life. Her family's life is full of secrets and we will slowly see what happened and why this dating app is so important.

To be completely honest, some of the twists are predictable, if you often watch mystery movies, I'm sure you can guess some of the them, because it is that easy. However, the twist at the very end is so surprising, in my opinion. I never thought about that. This movie is also thrilling and keep you wanting to know more about the murder case and Rinka's life.

Who are these ladies?

Characterization wise... I don't like Rinka's character, I'm sorry😂 how can she be that clueless? And she can easily trust men, like..?? Girl, please have an awareness😬 because this world is dangerous lol.

The acting is great, I must say. It's Tao Tsuchiya, y'all. We all know that she is a great actress. Other casts did great too. Daisuke Sakuma really impresses me with his acting. I don't know how to explain, but in portraying his character, Tomu, he can give this creepy but with a slight of kindness vibe, if that makes sense.

The message is also clear: be careful with who you trust.

Overall, I like this movie because it is compelling, entertaining and the cinematography has this chilly, creepy vibes (I think this one needs to be mentioned). But be careful because it has some gore scenes that might be disturbing for some people. I give it 3,75/5⭐️ because, even though I enjoy watching it, I have seen other movies with similar storyline but they have better execution. Have you guys watched this movie? 👀
