Ah, how do I put the words to sum up this movie? Right now, I just want to say: GO WATCH THIS MOVIE, GUYS. IT'S SO GOOD!😭😭 just trust me.
So, what is this movie about? It's about Akito Hayasaka (Ren Nagase), a talented 17 years old artist, whose world feels like it's about to end when he discovered that he has tumor in his heart and he only has a year left to live. Frustrated and depressed, he initially planned to end his life by jumping from the hospital roof. That's when he met Haruna Sakurai (Natsuki Deguchi). A girl that only has 6 months left to live.
Natsuki Deguchi as Haruna Sakurai
Ren Nagase as Akito Hayasaka
Now I know how to summarize this movie: it's a sad, but at the same times, beautiful tragedy that teaches us a lot about life.
"Because to us, normal is the most precious and the most irreplaceable thing in the world."
-Haruna Sakurai
Akito and Haruna are still young and they have so much opportunities in the future, especially in arts, but sadly, they have time limit in their lives.
Not like Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight, we were already told from the beginning how this movie would end, but it doesn't make this movie any less beautiful. It is still beautiful, and will make you bawl your eyes out.
We can see the leads' opinions on death and how they learn and grow throughout this movie. I'm also happy that the side characters don't appear as an 'addition', and they add colours to the story.
I also love the casts so much. Natsuki has always been my favourite since The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House. So does Ren Nagase. Natsuki really shines in this movie and Ren is perfect for Akito. Since I saw Ren in Hold My Hand at Twilight, I know he will nail the role of soft, kindhearted guy. I think the casts did a great job in this movie.
Akito and Haruna experience the truest, purest love in the short period and they are blessed because not everyone can experience that in life💗🥺
"It's frightening. Love with a time limit. Something you know is gonna end before it even begins."
-Haruna Sakurai
The cinematography and the music are amazing. It is set mostly in the summer but the cinematography looks a bit gloomy to fit the storyline. The soundtrack is also nice!
Also, other details that should be mentioned are how many things that seem simple but can add special touch to the story. Take the title as an example. Drawing Closer. Not only the storyline that draws the leads to get closer, but Akito and Haruna are very talented at drawing and I love that this fact also connects them to the title itself. Another one is the gerbera flowers. Not gonna explain it all here because it will lead into a spoiler (this flower is special, you guys). But, a little fact about this flower is it blooms twice a year in the spring and in the autumn (Haruna comes from the word 'haru' which means spring. Same goes to Akito. 'Aki' means autumn). I advice you to watch this movie immediately after reading my review. I promise you that this gerbera flower part is worth it💗😭
Anyway, I'm a sucker for tearjerker movies so no wonder I give this one 5/5⭐️ so tragic, but so beautiful. Highly recommend! Have you guys watched this movie?
